American and Canadian building code councils have now recognized and included ICFs in the building code. The reinforcement tables in these building codes cover generic Flat Wall concrete thicknesses - 5.5", 7.5", and 9.5". Since the Arxx Flat Wall ICFs offer more concrete thickness - 6.25", 7.875" and 9.875", following the same design criteria, the prescriptive engineering analysis on the Arxx forms will dictate a more advantageous reinforcement placement than the tables for the generic forms in these building codes.
The Arxx Prescriptive Design Requirements have been developed in association with NAHB Research Center, Inc. based on Structural Concrete design criteria per ACI 318 and the current ICC & IRC building codes. The documentation follows the applicability limits for the Residential construction of one and two story buildings with a below grade basement or crawlspace. The design loading requirements are based on Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures (ASCE 7-98). Design wind speed 130mph fastest-mile, 150mph gust, snow load 100psf, and all seismic design categories.
The Prescriptive Design Tables follow Applicability Limits but the design and use of the Arxx ICF is not bound by this document. Design criteria requirements over and above the basic limits set in the Arxx Prescriptive must be addressed by a professional engineer following structural design for reinforced concrete per ACI-318.
